About This Packaging
Spices and seasoning packaging is one of the most critical categories in flexible packaging for aroma retention. Black pepper, oregano, cumin, paprika, turmeric, cinnamon and spice blends are high-value, low-volume products. Aroma integrity determines 95% of product quality — aroma loss directly causes consumer dissatisfaction. MyPlast spice packaging is optimised across the triangle of essential oil protection, light barrier and moisture control.
A secondary challenge in spice packaging is microportion. Single-use 1-3 g spice sachets are an important segment for restaurant, fast-food and catering channels. Microportion sachet production runs on high-speed HFFS lines at 400-800 packs/minute.
Barrier Requirements
Aroma barrier: Aromatic components in spices (eugenol, carvacrol, cinnamaldehyde, piperine) are low-molecular-weight volatile oils; they pass through standard PE films. PET/MET-PET/PE structure captures these volatiles; with aluminium foil, aroma loss is practically zero.
Light barrier: Carotenoids and chlorophylls in powdered spices (turmeric yellow, paprika red, oregano green) degrade under UV; colour loss harms consumer shelf perception. For full light protection, metallized or aluminium foil structure is recommended.
Moisture and anti-caking: Powdered spices are sensitive to moisture absorption; caking starts above 12% moisture. MVTR ≤2 g/m²/day is targeted. Whole spices (whole peppercorns) are less sensitive.
Material Options
- 1Kraft window structure — for premium spice brands with artisanal and organic positioning. Kraft outer surface delivers a natural feel; clear window shows product colour.
- 2White kraft window structure — for modern, clean design. Preferred for premium spice brands and gourmet product lines.
- 3PET/MET-PET/PE metallized laminate — standard structure for mid-segment spice packaging. Premium print quality and aroma protection.
- 4PET/Aluminium/PE — for long shelf-life export spice products. Absolute aroma and light protection.
Packaging Format Options
Doypack 50-250g (retail spice): Stand-up doypack with zipper. Reclosability supports aroma retention. Window kraft or metallized doypack is preferred.
Microportion sachet 1-3g (HoReCa): Single-use spice sachet for restaurant, fast-food and airline meal services. Produced on high-speed HFFS lines.
Side-gusset bag 500g - 5kg (wholesale): Wholesale format for restaurant and catering sector. Carry-hole and zipper as standard.
Stick packs 10-15g (single portion): Single-portion stick for catering and travel. High-speed production lines.
Certification & Food Safety
MyPlast packaging is produced under BRCGS AA Global Standard and ISO 22000 Food Safety Management System. All food-contact materials are migration-tested for compliance with EU Regulation 10/2011. These certifications ensure your products meet market entry requirements for the EU, GCC and Turkish markets.
MOQ & Ordering Process
Stock MOQ is 1,000 pieces with a 3–5 business day lead time. For custom-print orders, MOQ is 5,000 pieces with 10–15 business day lead time. For VFFS/flowpack reel supply, minimum 200 kg per reel specification applies.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is aroma loss minimised in spice packaging?
Aroma loss is minimised through three technical controls: (1) High-barrier structure — PET/MET-PET/PE or aluminium foil laminate, (2) Hermetic sealing — ASTM F88 minimum 25 N/15 mm seal strength, (3) Reclosable zipper — minimises air contact after each consumer opening. This combination delivers 18-24 months of aroma stability.
Do you produce microportion sachets for HoReCa?
Yes, microportion sachet (1-3 g) production is a MyPlast specialty capability. High-speed HFFS lines produce 400-800 sachets/minute. MOQ 100,000 pieces; for launch batch planning 250,000+ recommended. Monthly batch delivery contracts available for restaurant chains and airline meal services.
Do you offer organic-certified spice packaging?
Yes. MyPlast offers EU Organic and USDA Organic certified materials for organic spice packaging. FSC certified kraft paper is also used. This meets the certification requirements for organic spice brands in their packaging chain. Certification documents are provided with each batch.
What is the MOQ for spice packaging?
For in-stock retail spice doypack, MOQ is 1,000 pieces. For custom-printed doypack, 5,000 pieces. For microportion sachets, 100,000 pieces (based on high-speed production line). For wholesale side-gusset bags, 3,000 pieces. Lead times 5-15 business days.
