Ready and frozen food packaging must withstand a wide temperature range from -40°C to +121°C. Products may undergo steam cooking (retort) or conveyor oven heating. Packaging materials must therefore be engineered for both freeze-thaw cycling and heat-processing resistance.
MyPlast produces ready and frozen food packaging in BRCGS AA and ISO 22000 certified facilities. Seal integrity tests, low-temperature tests, and cook-in-bag validations are carried out routinely.
Barrier Requirements
In frozen foods, moisture loss (freezer burn) is the primary quality issue: WVTR ≤0.1 g/m²/day is the target. Oxygen permeability for fatty products should be OTR ≤2 cc/m²/day to prevent oxidation.
For cook-in-bag applications, retort-resistant BOPET/Nylon/CPP or BOPET/Al/CPP structures are used. Flat-bottomed gusseted bags improve stacking efficiency in deep freezers. Puncture resistance ≥8 N (Elmendorf test) and low-temperature flex durability (-20°C) are critical parameters.
Material Options
- 1Three primary structures are recommended for ready and frozen foods:
- 21. **High-barrier aluminium structure** (BOPET/Al/CPP): Highest barrier values, retort-compatible, ideal for light meals and ready-to-eat dishes. Zero light transmittance.
- 32. **Nylon-reinforced structure** (BOPET/Nylon/LLDPE): High puncture resistance, clear window option available. Ideal for fresh-frozen meat and fish products.
- 43. **Kraft+Aluminium** (KRAFT/Al/PE): Preferred for oven bags and cook-in pouches. Natural appearance provides marketing advantage.
Packaging Format Options
Gusseted bags and side-gusset pouches are the most widely used formats in ready food packaging. Gusseted bags offer high fill efficiency for large-volume products (1 kg+ frozen vegetables, meat).
Flat-bottom (box pouch) packaging is preferred for premium ready meals that stand upright on shelf. Zipper or press-to-close resealability is used for partial-use products requiring reclosure.
Certification & Food Safety
MyPlast packaging is produced under BRCGS AA Global Standard and ISO 22000 Food Safety Management System. All food-contact materials are migration-tested for compliance with EU Regulation 10/2011. These certifications ensure your products meet market entry requirements for the EU, GCC and Turkish markets.
MOQ & Ordering Process
Stock MOQ is 1,000 pieces with a 3–5 business day lead time. For custom-print orders, MOQ is 5,000 pieces with 10–15 business day lead time. For VFFS/flowpack reel supply, minimum 200 kg per reel specification applies.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which material should be used for cook-in bags?
BOPET/Nylon/CPP structure is recommended for cook-in bag applications. This structure withstands 121°C retort temperature and provides high puncture resistance. BOPET/CPP may suffice for steam-cooking bags.
Are there special sizes for frozen products?
Yes, wide-gusset formats (4+4 cm and above) are recommended for frozen products. 20×30 cm or 18×29 cm for 1 kg frozen vegetables, and 25×34 cm for 2 kg are the most suitable options.
