Powder detergent packaging has two jobs: keep moisture out so the powder does not cake, and let a heavy bag survive carrying, stacking and drops. Moisture, fragrance and strength
- Moisture barrier — stops powder detergent caking; PET/PE and metallised structures cut moisture transmission
- Fragrance — limits perfume escaping the pack and reaching other goods in storage
- Seal and puncture strength — a thick, strongly sealing inner layer for heavy bags; PA/PE where needed
Quad seal bag, center seal or rollstock
The side-gusset (quad seal) bag stands upright and stacks, the standard for large sizes of powder detergent. Center-seal (flow wrap) packs are used for small sizes and tablets. For high-speed vertical (VFFS) and horizontal (HFFS) lines we produce printed rollstock, from 500 kg.
Liquids and chemical compatibility
For liquid detergents and softeners, the chemical compatibility of the inner layer is assessed against the formula; surfactants can interact with some structures. We recommend testing a sample film or pouch with your product before production.

Detergent packaging creates a unique need for chemical resistance and mechanical durability in flexible packaging. Powder detergent, liquid detergent, capsules/soap bars and specialty cleaning formulations require packaging films that remain stable in contact with surfactants, alkaline substances and enzymes. Inadequate barrier or weak seals lead to packaging failure and consumer loss. MyPlast detergent packaging offers a balanced design across chemical stability, mechanical resistance and retail positioning.
Another key challenge in the detergent category is child safety and accurate product labelling. EU Regulation (CLP) and ISO 8317 (Child Resistance Testing) requirements mandate compliant packaging seals, closure systems and printed languages. MyPlast supplies detergent packaging compliant with European, Turkish and GCC market requirements.
Barrier Requirements
Chemical resistance: Sodium carbonates, bicarbonates, perborates and enzymes in powder detergents can degrade standard PE films over time. MyPlast detergent packaging uses high-molecular-weight LDPE/HDPE blend or OPP/PE laminate; these structures remain stable in pH 8-12 alkaline environments for 24+ months. For liquid detergents, PET/PE barrier with extra-strength inner layer is preferred.
Mechanical resistance: Detergent packaging experiences dynamic pressure during filling and crush forces during transit. For side-gusset 1-5 kg constructions, film thickness 100-150 microns and seal width 12-15 mm are mandatory. Drop testing is conducted from 1.2 m, 5 times with full product.
Anti-static treatment: Powder detergents can build electrostatic charge causing filling-line issues and film-surface adhesion. MyPlast solves this with anti-static agents added to the inner PE layer.

- 4Co-extruded PE barrier film — for liquid detergent refill packaging. With oil- and water-repellent coating, sealability and mechanical resistance are achieved together.
Packaging Format Options
Side-gusset bag (1-5 kg retail): The most common detergent packaging format. Stand-up structure improves shelf visibility. Typical sizes 1 kg, 1.5 kg, 2 kg, 3 kg, 5 kg. Side-gusset width 80-120 mm, reinforced bottom seal as standard.
Doypack (1-3 kg premium): Stand-up doypack for premium detergent brands and laundry detergents. Optional carrying handle and pouring spout. Reclosable zipper or slider improves consumer retention.
Large-format sack (10-25 kg): For industrial and bulk use. Side-gusset or flat-sack construction. For wholesale channels, laundry sector and B2B use. Reinforced top closure required for handling.
Liquid detergent pouch (refill 500ml-2L): Spout-cap doypack for refill concept. PE/Aluminium/PE structure provides liquid drop resistance. A growing segment as a single-use plastic bottle alternative.
