About This Packaging

Crisps and snack products are highly sensitive to fat oxidation and moisture ingress. Standard shelf life of 12 months requires OTR ≤1 cc/m²/day and WVTR ≤0.5 g/m²/day barrier values. Nitrogen gas flush (N₂ flush) prevents in-bag breakage while a BOPET/BOPP multi-layer laminate structure delivers a light barrier that preserves colour vibrancy.

MyPlast produces crisps and salty snack packaging in BRCGS AA and ISO 22000 certified facilities, using food-grade inks and solventless adhesive. Seven size options from 8.5×14.5 cm to 25×34 cm cover everything from single-serve brand packs to large retail formats.

Barrier Requirements

The primary barrier requirement for crisps packaging is retarding fat oxidation: OTR ≤1 cc/m²/day (23°C, 50% RH). Moisture ingress softens the product; WVTR ≤0.5 g/m²/day is required. Light-induced oxidation also demands a metallic or opaque barrier with light transmittance <2%.

Recommended layer structure: BOPP 20 µm / Adhesive / Aluminium Foil 9 µm, or PVDC-coated BOPP / PE. Nitrogen gas (≥99.5% purity) flush reduces internal atmosphere O₂ concentration below 1%. MyPlast verifies each production batch with vacuum or MAP heat-seal integrity tests.

Material Options

  • 1BOPP/Aluminium Foil/PE laminate is the most common structure in the crisps sector, delivering superior light and oxygen barrier with excellent print quality at a competitive cost. BOPP/PVDC/PE is an aluminium-free recyclable alternative, though OTR values are slightly higher.
  • 2For brands seeking kraft aesthetics, BOPET/Kraft/PE provides a natural appearance with adequate barrier performance. MyPlast also offers Mono-PE fully recyclable construction for crisps packaging, achieving OTR ≤2 cc/m²/day with PVDC barrier.

Packaging Format Options

The ideal format for crisps packaging is the stand-up doypack with strong base stability and excellent shelf presence. Small single-serve pouches (8.5×14.5 cm) are available with or without zipper. Large family-size formats (25×34 cm) use wide-gusset doypack construction.

For VFFS (Vertical Form Fill Seal) machine users, BOPP or BOPP/Al reels are the appropriate supply format. Minimum order for reel packaging is 200 kg per reel specification.
